Product Overview

Glide into the world of urban commuting with the Segway Ninebot ES2, a scooter crafted for riders who prioritize efficiency, convenience, and a bit of fun in their daily travels. This e-scooter is ideal for young professionals and city dwellers needing a quick and stylish way to navigate through bustling streets. Its compact design and solid performance make it a practical choice for short to medium distances. However, those in search of a rugged trail companion or requiring longer-range capabilities might need to consider other options.

Design and Build Quality:

Upon unboxing the Ninebot ES2, I was immediately struck by its polished appearance. With its cool grey finish and neatly integrated lights, this scooter exudes a modern vibe. It’s predominantly aluminum frame lends a sturdy feel without making it too heavy to carry upstairs or onto public transport. Assembling was straightforward – just fastening the handlebar onto the stem – so I had it ready for action in no time.

Overall Performance:

Throughout my week of testing, I found myself reaching for the ES2 for trips to coffee shops, quick errands, and even leisurely evening rides around the neighborhood. The 25 km range is ample for day-to-day use, and zipping along at 25 kph feels thrilling yet safe. Acceleration is smooth; whether taking off from traffic lights or climbing modest inclines, the scooter handles with poise, thanks to that 300w motor power. Braking was intuitive with the electric brake providing enough stopping power without any jarring halts – often not even needing the rear foot brake.

The Motors & Battery:

Performance-wise, the motor packed enough punch to handle cityscapes with ease. That said, steeper hills did see a slight dip in momentum but nothing that halted progress. Battery life impressed me most – after journeys totaling close to 20 km on sport mode, there was still juice left in the tank. Recharging was true to its claimed 3.5 hours for full battery revival.

The Wheels & Braking:

Rolling on solid tires meant zero worries about punctures but expect a firmer ride compared to pneumatic options. Dual spring suspension worked hard to soften the ride over city imperfections, though significant bumps were felt more than I'd have liked. The braking system felt reliable overall; I especially appreciated how gradually it engaged when easing off the throttle.

Overall Handling:

Navigating through pedestrian crowds or tight corners felt almost second nature on this agile scooter; responsive steering enhanced maneuverability in various environments. For comfort during longer rides or when navigating rougher patches of road, I found myself wishing for slightly more forgiving suspension.

Maintenance and Repair:

Maintenance during my time with the ES2 was minimal – an occasional check on bolts and screws sufficed. However, knowing that replacement parts are readily available gave me confidence about long-term upkeep.

Additional Features:

Nighttime rides became a treat with bright front lights leading the way and customizable underglow lights adding flair (and visibility) from below. These features seamlessly fit into my routine and upped my safety during evening commutes.

Rating:

Taking everything into account - design, performance, handling - I’d rate this scooter at 7/10. Deductions come from its less-than-plush ride over harsher terrains and limitations on steeper inclines.

Segway Ninebot ES2 Review 2021

For a low to mid-budget electric scooter, we feel Segway have raised the bar. Full mobile app support with highly customisable lighting and an array of both fun and functional features. Whilst some rely on the mobile app to operate (such as custom lighting), we still feel this is a minor issue as almost everyone has a phone these days. Although offering similar performance to the ES1, this model is boasts both a higher top speed and bigger battery. We were especially surprised with how lightweight this model is, weighing in at just 27.5 lbs (12.5 kg) with a fully folding frame; making it a great electric scooter for commuting.

The ES2 is a very good, mid-range electric scooter but the big question is whether or not it is worth spending the extra money on an ES2 or buying the M365 instead. There is a full comparison between the ES2 and M365 here, but the essentials are this: which do you think looks cooler? How important is a speedometer and could you be bothered to upgrade the M365's display? Are you likely to puncture your tyres often (in which case an ES2 is preferable)? As noted in the introduction, both Lime and Bird have been hiring out the ES2 so it is clearly a reliable scooter.

The Ninebot Segway ES2 has a polished look, impressive cruising speed, and great speed regulation on descents. However, it suffers in the general performance that would have put it in contention with the leading models in the class. The ES2 has a limited range and struggles with very steep hills. Moreover, the frame is long and has an awkward carrying handle. That said, the steering column folding mechanism and carry handle latch are among the best we've tested.

The Segway Ninebot Kickscooter ES2 isn’t incredibly special, but it’s a solid choice for commuting, at least for lighter individuals given its 220 max load. Yes, 15mph is average, but it can push those speeds for at least an hour, with a short charging time, which means you can let it charge while you work, then take off at the end of the day.

If you’re after a sleek scooter that gets you from A to B and requires minimal fuss, the Ninebot ES2 could be the scooter for you. It’s not the cheapest on the market but its cruise control feature, durable design, and excellent warranty from the team at Segway make this a stress-free commuting option. It shouldn’t be taken off-road and you don’t want to be climbing steep hills either, but it does a decent job of providing a comfortable ride as long as you’re rolling over smooth asphalt.

As you can see by now, the Segway Ninebot ES2 falls short in several critical areas while still boasting a rather high price tag thanks to its brand name. Due to its lack of range, speed, and overall riding experience, depending on your specific needs, it might be worth shopping around for a scooter that offers better performance. However, if you decide that the Segway Ninebot ES2 is right for, you can rest assured knowing that it’s built using high-quality materials that are lightweight, and designed to keep your safe while cruising around town!
